I'm intrigued by the effects of accumulation, how smaller elements collect to make a dynamic whole, whether they are from nature's rich surfaces or from the cumulative effects of my personal experiences which started in Hawaii and continue in Southern California.
My work is made up of many layers of acrylic paint, media and collage material. Each layer shows part of itself in the completed work, hinting at how everything coalesces to create the final surface. In the process of working, I see connections and references emerge, setting themselves apart from the background. I liken it to weeding and uncovering a forgotten plant in bloom.
The resulting pieces contain many allusions to personally significant images, natural forms and the dynamic forces which underlie them.
